Darrell Jackson memorial service scheduled for July 18

DOWNEY – A memorial service for longtime youth mentor and former Major League Baseball pitcher Darrell Jackson will be held Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Sussman Middle School.

The school is located at 12500 Birchdale Ave. in Downey. Because parking is limited, attendees are encouraged to carpool.

Jackson died July 5 after a battle with lung cancer. He was 70.

A former pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, Jackson later devoted decades of his life to helping young people and families in crisis as founder of Downey’s 10-20 Club, a nonprofit intervention organization serving at-risk youth. He also worked closely with Downey Unified School District and numerous community organizations.
