Rep. Linda Sánchez tours Kolar Family YMCA

DOWNEY – Rep. Linda Sánchez recently toured the Kolar Family YMCA, currently under construction in Downey, to get a firsthand look at progress on the long-awaited community facility.

Sánchez was joined on the visit by Steve Roberson, chair of the YMCA’s capital development campaign; Jeremy Fitzl, chair of the YMCA’s Board of Managers; board member Eric Pierce; executive director Cheryl Vargas; and senior vice president Dan Powell.

The new Kolar Family YMCA is being built as a modern replacement for Downey’s former YMCA facility and is expected to expand opportunities for youth programs, fitness, recreation and other community services.

The facility is expected to open in the spring of 2027.
