DOWNEY — The Downey City Council on Tuesday will consider traveling to Ensenada, Mexico, where they have been invited by the city’s mayor for a special ceremony.

The ceremony, tentatively scheduled for May or June of this year, would be a formal thank-you to the City of Downey for its donation of two decommissioned ambulances to Ensenada.

“The City of Ensenada would like to thank the City of Downey by hosting this special event,” city officials wrote in a report to Downey council members.

The trip would cost $4,500, covering travel mileage, lodging and meals for four Downey council members for three days.

Ensenada is one of Downey’s six official sister cities.
