DOWNEY — The Downey Fire Department responded to seven fire-related incidents during a busy Fourth of July holiday, but reported no structure fires or fireworks-related injuries in the city.

Fire Chief Anthony Hildebrand said firefighters handled 50 emergency incidents during the 24-hour shift from 6:30 a.m. July 4 to 6:30 a.m. July 5.

Of the seven fire-related calls, three involved vegetation, including grass and trees, while four were rubbish fires involving items such as dumpsters or trash cans.

The department additionally responded to mutual aid incidents in Compton.

Hildebrand cautioned that incident classifications shown on the PulsePoint app may differ from what firefighters ultimately find at the scene. For example, he said crews were dispatched to a reported apartment fire but determined upon arrival that the actual incident was a dumpster fire.
