Four arrested after AutoZone, Spirit Halloween burglarized

DOWNEY — Four people were arrested early Monday after police responded to a possible street takeover and discovered burglaries at two businesses on Firestone Boulevard, authorities said.

Downey police officers were called at about 3:43 a.m. Aug. 10 to the area of Firestone Boulevard and Ryerson Avenue following reports of a disturbance and possible street takeover.

While officers were responding, police received another call reporting an audible burglary alarm at the AutoZone at 7075 Firestone Blvd.

The alarm company, which was monitoring the store through closed-circuit television cameras, reported seeing approximately 20 people inside the business taking merchandise, according to the Downey Police Department.

Officers arrived and detained four adults, who were subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Police also discovered that the neighboring Spirit Halloween store at 7171 Firestone Blvd. had been burglarized.

Police did not immediately release the identities of the four people arrested or say whether investigators believe the burglaries were connected to the reported street takeover.

Downey police detectives are investigating both burglaries.
