Three dead after shooting, police confrontation in Downey

DOWNEY — Three people were killed Saturday morning in a shooting on Downey Avenue that ended with police fatally shooting an armed suspect, authorities said.

Downey police officers responded at about 7:50 a.m. to the 11800 block of Downey Avenue after receiving a report of shots heard.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers later located an adult woman who had also been shot, according to the Downey Police Department.

While officers were at the scene, they were contacted by an armed man and an officer-involved shooting occurred, police said. The armed man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The male and female shooting victims also died from their injuries.

No Downey police officers or other members of the public were injured during the incident.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and is handling the investigation.

Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the victims or the armed man, nor did they disclose additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
