Girl Scouts' work recognized by city

DOWNEY - Girl Scout Troop #324 was recognized by the City Council last week for their work on an anti-littering decal campaign done in conjunction with Keep Downey Beautiful. The troop has spent the last few months working on their Silver Award, the highest award that can be earned by a Cadette Girl Scout. The Girl Scouts visited nearly 600 businesses and retail stores in Downey to offer a window decal that said "Please Stop Littering - Keep Downey Beautiful." About 70 percent of the businesses accepted a decal. The City Council presented the Girl Scouts with a certificate of recognition last week. Members of Troop #324 who participated in the project are Kirsty Brito, Megan Collier, Marissa Santana and Bonnie Shilling. The troop is lead by Renee Santana and Noemi Brito. ********** Published: February 20, 2009 - Volume 7 - Issue 44
