Hector Sosa earns BizFed PAC endorsement

DOWNEY — Downey City Councilman Hector Sosa announced today that he has earned the endorsement of BizFed PAC, the political action committee affiliated with the Los Angeles County Business Federation.

BizFed is a grassroots alliance of more than 240 business organizations representing approximately 420,000 employers and 5 million employees throughout Southern California. Its members include chambers of commerce, trade associations, minority business groups, business improvement districts and economic development organizations.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of BizFed PAC,” Sosa said. “Small businesses create jobs, strengthen our neighborhoods and give Downey its unique character. City Hall should be a partner in their success by making it easier to open, operate and grow a business in our community.”

Sosa has made support for small businesses a priority during his four years on the Downey City Council.

In October 2025, he proposed replacing the city’s one-size-fits-all conditional use permit fee with a tiered structure based on the size and complexity of each project. The City Council unanimously approved the new system earlier this year.

Under the revised structure, qualifying businesses may bypass the Planning Commission process, reducing application costs and shortening approval timelines while maintaining appropriate city oversight.

“For a small business owner, thousands of dollars in fees and months of delays can determine whether a new venture succeeds or never opens at all,” Sosa said. “We can protect the community’s interests without creating unnecessary barriers for entrepreneurs who want to invest in Downey.”

Sosa holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance and a minor in economics from Cal State Los Angeles. As a financial services professional, he works with individuals, families and business owners to help them plan for their financial futures.

A longtime Downey resident and graduate of Warren High School, Sosa has also served in leadership roles with Gangs Out of Downey, Downey Los Amigos Kiwanis, West Downey Little League and the Downey Junior Athletic Association.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Downey’s economy,” Sosa said. “I will continue working to cut unnecessary costs, encourage responsible investment and create an environment where local businesses and their employees can thrive.”
