Silent book auction at library

DOWNEY – The following items are being auctioned by the Friends of the Downey City Library, with proceeds benefiting library programs: “Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Robinson Crusoe and Robin Hood” (four classic action books all illustrated by N.C. Wyeth – a nice set for any young reader);

“Ghost Trails to California” (a pictorial journey from the Rockies to the Gold Country)’

“Cathedral” (a richly illustrated book showing the intricate step-by-step process of a cathedral’s construction);

“Encarta – World English Dictionary” (the first dictionary to reflect the world wide status of the English language);

“The Bridge at Remagen” (book and DVD that tell the true story of the day the Rhine River was crossed by Allied troops);

“500 Nations – An Illustrated History of North American Indians” (the story of the hundreds of Indian nations who inhabited the North American continent for more than 15,000 years);

“Celebrations – Easy Entertaining for Every Occasion” (stress-free recipes help your next special occasion easier to pull off);

“Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium” (from Bach to Schumann, 20 CD’s provide a collection of classic music covering every major artist of the millennium);

“Grace for the Moment-Morning and Evening Edition” (a great nightstand reader to start and finish the day);

“The Illustrated Life of Jesus Christ” (pictures from Byzantine mosaics to the century show how different ages have portrayed the events of the four gospels and Jesus’s teachings)’

“America’s National Parks” (captures all that is great about all 56 parks);

“The Art of Carl Faberge” (in addition to the dazzling Easter eggs made for the Czar and his family, he created beautiful objects of gold and jewels-more than 200 pictures)

Books have opening bids from $5-$12 and are on display in the library lobby. Bids can be made through noon, Saturday, March 28, in the Friend’s Bookstore located in the young adult section of the library.
