Soroptimist of Downey launches flamingo fundraiser across city
DOWNEY – Residents who spot a flock of pink flamingos popping up on neighborhood lawns in the coming weeks can rest assured there’s no cause for alarm. The Soroptimist of Downey has officially kicked off its annual Flamingo Fundraiser, a lighthearted campaign designed to raise money for local programs and scholarships.
For a $50 donation, participants can arrange to have a group of bright pink flamingos temporarily placed in the yard of a friend, family member or neighbor living in Downey.
Organizers say the fundraiser is conducted in good spirit, with proceeds benefiting community activities, awards and scholarships supported by the Soroptimist of Downey. All donations are tax deductible.
Residents interested in “flocking” someone can place an order by calling 310-717-3637. While the fundraiser primarily serves the Downey area, availability may vary based on location.
