SOUTH GATE — A new street soccer park is set to open in South Gate this month as part of a nationwide initiative tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing expanded recreational and educational opportunities to the local community.
The facility will be located at Hollydale Park, 5400 Monroe Ave., and is scheduled to open by April 16. The project is part of a partnership between Visa, Street Soccer USA and Bank of America to build community soccer parks in every U.S. host city ahead of the tournament.
The South Gate site will serve as the Los Angeles-area location in the program and is designed to function as more than just a sports facility. Plans call for two professional-grade Bank of America fields, lighting for extended play, dedicated learning centers offering after-school academic support and financial education, and workforce programming hubs focused on job readiness.
Organizers said the goal is to transform underused spaces into community hubs that support both recreation and personal development, with programming tailored to local needs. In other cities where similar parks have opened, activities have included youth and adult leagues, educational support services and career readiness programs.
The South Gate project is part of a broader expansion that will bring parks to all 11 U.S. host cities, including Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia and Seattle-Tacoma. Existing locations in San Francisco, Denver, Kansas City and New York City are already in operation.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to bring global attention to host cities across North America, including Los Angeles. Officials said the new parks are intended to provide a lasting local benefit beyond the tournament itself by creating spaces that support community connection, health and opportunity.
