William Sarell served in WWII

DOWNEY -- William Sarell, a longtime resident of Downey, passed away Feb. 21 from complications of kidney failure.He was born in Golden, Colo. After graduating high school, he joined the Navy to serve his country during World War II. After the war, he went to work for Owens-Illinois Glass Company where he met his future wife, Loraine. They were married Nov. 22, 1947. In 1950, they moved to Downey where they built their home that they have lived in ever since. He was active in scouting, local schools, and was commissioner of baseball for DJAA while his boys were growing up. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church since 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 26, 2007, four days after their 60th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his sons, Edward, Gary, Mark and their wives; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at Rose Hill's Hillside Chapel at 9 a.m. A viewing will be held today from 5-8:30 p.m. ********** Published: February 27, 2009 - Volume 7 - Issue 45
