Hector Sosa cites fiscal responsibility, accountability in council votes

DOWNEY — Councilman Hector Sosa is emphasizing fiscal responsibility and accountability as priorities in his campaign for re-election, citing his votes opposing a proposed monthly compensation measure for council members and changes to Downey’s term limits.

Sosa cast the lone dissenting vote in January when the City Council advanced a proposal that would have asked voters to approve $1,000 in monthly compensation for council members. After opposition from Sosa, the proposal was subsequently withdrawn from consideration for the November ballot and will not be presented to voters.

Sosa also opposed proposals to expand Downey’s council term limits. The council ultimately left the existing limit of two four-year terms unchanged.

“Fiscal responsibility means carefully considering how public funds are used and keeping elected officials accountable to the residents they serve. I was not comfortable asking voters to approve monthly compensation for council members, and I believe the existing term limits are sufficient,” Sosa said. “My votes reflect my belief that public service must remain focused on serving the community.”

Sosa is seeking re-election to represent District 2. He is a Financial Services Professional, working daily to help families protect their financial futures and secure peace of mind.
