New textbooks open for inspection

DOWNEY — Downey Unified invites the public to examine materials being considered for use in middle school Science and high school Health.

The materials selected are in alignment with the new California Healthy Youth Act (AB 329).

Copies of the materials will be on display on the second floor of instructional service department in the Gallegos Administration Center at 11627 Brookshire Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 29 through May 17.

Two parent meetings will be held on Monday, May 20, (high school curriculum) at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, May 22, (middle school curriculum) at 5:30 p.m. at the Gallegos Administration Center’s District Conference Center-A (DCC-A).

The policy of the Board of Education provides that anyone wishing to offer suggestions or comments about the materials must be submitted in writing to the superintendent seven days prior to the board meeting at which the materials will be discussed.

The recommendation is planned to take place at the Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 18.
