NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR A

ZONING TEXT AMENDMENT

Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held before the DOWNEY CITY PLANNING COMMISSION on the 6th day of May, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers of the Downey City Hall, 11111 Brookshire Avenue, Downey, California. At that time and place, consideration will be given to the following:

(PLN-26-00019) Zoning Text Amendment: The City of Downey Planning Commission will consider a Zoning Text Amendment at a public hearing for a recommendation to the City Council regarding amendments to various sections of Article IX (Land Use) of the Downey Municipal Code. These amendments relate to the application and project review authority, procedures and clarifications to improve code clarity, streamline project reviews, and ensure consistency with State law. The updates include revisions to definitions, residential development standards, construction noise limitation, and other development standards, as well as additional non-substantive clean-up edits.

All interested parties are invited to submit written comments and/or to attend and give testimony. The staff report, which provides a detailed description and analysis of this project, will be posted to the City Boards and Commission Meetings webpage of the City’s website (http://www.downeyca.org) on the Friday prior to the public hearing.

Staff has reviewed the proposed Zoning Text Amendment for compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) per CEQA guidelines Section 15061(b)(3), known as the Common Sense Exemption, as it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the activity may have a significant effect on the environment.
